the photographer Wolfgang Hermann, Austria,
wrote as a comment to his self-portrait:
a big rain destroyed my home
at first i saw this as a bad luck
because i lost a lot
now i know
it was a good luck
because i got the chance to have a new begin
with less things

frizztext comment:
It is certainly a terrible experience, to become the victim of any disaster. But the human psyche (reason: the need for a stable motivation of survival) can somehow filter out a strictly positive extract of the whole thing. The result was (perhaps by a philosophical dialogue with my e-mail partner Wolfgang Hermann in Austria) that statement on the benefits of reducing the property as an opportunity, with the minimalist essence to begin new again. The camera was clearly not a victim of the flooding of the property. How long it still needs to overcome the psychological terror of such an event, dream logs can show. Currently our minds depend again magnetically to the reports from the major floods currently in Queensland in northeast Australia…

for to translate the German part into English
I’ve added an html-code (only google-machine):

To see a lifetime’s belongings reduced like this is a very sobering experience, but the attitude that it’s merely an opportunity to start again with less clutter makes this a statement of triumph over adversity and brought a smile to my face 🙂

hi frizz
i feel honored and
in my weak english i write following comment:
before your flickr comment i forgot indeed this accident –
i had it bettter then my wife
i was not at home when i lost for example all my books, clothes and pictures from my parents and my childhood
and my camera was with me out
my wife was at home and in the bed in the deep night
sudently there was water and water around the bed
no light and at first she could not open the door against the water
in the last moment she could go out of the room and the water followed her
the water destroyed the basic floor of my house
this was surprising because we life on a hill in mountains
we could only save a few things
today the rooms are dry and restored as far as possible
but my wife could not live in this floor now
and if she hears a running water her heart is running very fast
we did not lost the life or one of ower five cats
so we lost only material things
that i call good luck
and the life goes on

thank you Wolfgang for your true words. And we now understand more the victims in Pakistan some months ago – or actually those in Australia …

Shit happens, but look at it from the bright side at least you have food to eat and water to drink. That’s more than millions of people in this world.

And sorry – I’m just not able to translate all my writings into englisch.
