In Valencia the architect Santiago Calatrava built his futuristic “City of Arts and Sciences” (Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències) – very expensive, the city got poorer. To attract visitors they built a new harbor for the America’s Cup (with a wall going deep into the water dividing dirty harbor water from clean America’s Cup water); very expensive, the city got poorer. Then they decided to build a street circuit round the harbor for the European Formula One Grand Prix. Valencia = where the money flows – very near to the great gesture of Calatrava’s architecture is a Kindergarten – a fence and some steel containers – no more money available for a house of stone. 25% are jobless in Valencia. Yesterday the prime minister of Spain lost his job: like in Greece and Italy times are a-changing: the Euro crisis goes on. Why?
