As a German I like to take a look back to former GDR / East Germany before the wall fell 1989. They had a special prison there for women in the castle Hoheneck. Stasi brought them in (took away their children) and destroyed the souls of ca. 20.000 women (mostly those, who had tried to escape from East Germany, trying to reach West Germany behind the “Iron Curtain“).

One can analyze the level of morality of a society, if the focus points to women’s rights (1), status of child corporal punishment (2), kind of treating animals (3), military budget (4), health organization (5), friendliness to strangers (6) – and methods in jails (7). Watching the last point, we have a lot of differences on the globe. As a German I like to take a look back to former GDR / East Germany before the wall fell 1989. They had a special prison there for women in the castle Hoheneck. Stasi brought them in (took away their children) and destroyed the souls of ca. 20.000 women (mostly those, who had tried to escape from East Germany, trying to reach West Germany behind the “Iron Curtain”). Now, 22 years after the reunification of the two Germanies a German TV-channel (ARD) featured a movie about that topic (with actress Anja Kling). Risky, because East and West Germany still have some conflicts. They are not completely united. They have the same coins (Euro), military, government, no borders on the streets – but in the minds still remained some walls. Individualism, multiculturalism, friendliness to strangers etc. – we still have big differences. I’m telling this, after Germany was shocked actually this week by some Neo-Nazi terrorist activities (NSU = Nationalsozialistischer Untergrund) – organized mainly in East Germany …
