Cuckoo Clock

Cuckoo Clock
Cuckoo Clock, a photo by Frizztext on Flickr.

Aged four, I once was in a home of rich people; they owned a cuckoo clock; so all my life I wished to become the owner of a cuckoo clock too – now on my 66. birthday my friends Jutta & Edgar brought one! Now my life has a frame, day and (even) night, each half hour.

I’ve introduced the cuckoo clock via Skype already to my enthusiastic grandchildren in Munich and Berlin. They are now literally electrified in their early predatory instincts by the clock’s details: killed deer, pheasant, rabbit, hunting horn … My cuckoo (his name is Heinz) consolidates my life, in fact, by every half hour additions, also my nocturnal wakefulness is so comforting accompanied and framed.
True, he has a night shut-off (not digital but in the form of a nail, blocking the door) – but I cannot use it. It breaks my heart already, that he cannot start to a flight through my home. But at night I’ll have to put my ear-sensitive son-in-law in handcuffs, when he visits us, because he has threatened me to hang out the clock’s iron weights until the next morning (something like cutting the balls of a bull…)
