I’m happy (and calm) that my favorite contribution of 2014’s European Song Contest for The Netherlands by “The Common Linnets”, title “Calm After The Storm” reached even the second rank (out of 26); here my little instrumental greetings, played on my classic guitar

I don’t know why they did a duet. The woman singer is better alone and it’s a mainstream country song but so unusual in Europe.
Conchita Wurst won with a fantastic performance (not only for what she is). I liked the Norway too and “your” song did 2nd. My friend 2rocks of my musical website Histozic.free.fr did the same choice as you.
And France contestants were ridiculous 😀 A specialty in our country since many years. the last good song : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pR9m4IVPUY (2nd in 1991)

beg your pardon, but I’ll mention the German contribution too, I like it, because it is an acoustic trio – something what I often like to play myself for my own soundcloud at

Ilse de Lange and Waylon are solo singers but coupled up for this contest. After the success of Anouk who was not afraid to lose her credibility as an artist being in a song contest the established Dutch artist look like be willing to participate. If they can write their own songs to sing fortunately! And not a dong trying to melt all to make the winning mixtures. Like most of the entries. All respect to Conchita but his voice is not really impressive to me. But the act and careful laid out image and performance hit the juries. Even in Holland. I think Waylon could go a better version of the Austrian entry 🙂

I’m just discovering that Ilse de Lange is a well known artist for a longer time already in The Netherlands – found for example this nice song:

Beautiful as the original! Too bad we were beaten by a beard but this is a gorgeous tune indeed. Not being cocky the bed song on stage but missing the ‘extra’

The Dutch duo was excellent! I was constantly reminded of Johnny Cash and June Carter. A very unusual choice for a European Song Contest.
But I am very happy that Conchita Wurst’s “Rise lie a Phoenix” came in first – for all the right reasons.
HAPPY Sunday 🙂

maybe a political message vs. the macho culture of Putin and his law makers; for me he/she reached the first position by political reasons – not the music was the main point; O.K.; my personal taste is country music and I like it, if there is not too much acrobatic on the stage, tricks performed by electricity, I hate if the background orchestra remains unseen, hidden at unknown places…

Now I’m sorry I missed it all but great to catch up here!

hi Patti,
actually I’m learning

– far away from actuality, but nevertheless I enjoy that…

Yes, for me too the Common Linnets were the real winners. I have nothing against Conchita but it wasn’t the best song and as it’s a musical contest that what I go on. To be honest Calm after the Storm is the best music I’ve ever heard on the Eurovision song contest! Let’s hope it signals a change in that direction.
