I’ve heard many versions of the song “The House of the Rising Sun”. For sure it isn’t necessary, that I add my own version here – but, I beg your pardon, I had fun to do so – I hope you’re amused too…

I’ve heard many versions of the song “The House of the Rising Sun”. The early versions by Leadbelly, Josh White, Libby Holman, Texas Alexander, Odetta. Then Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Doc Watson, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, The Animals / Eric Burdon, The Beatles; The Doors, Dolly Parton, Pink Floyd, Muse, Duran Duran, Bon Jovi, The Ventures, Gary Glitter, Tori Amos, Jimi Hendrix, Frijid Pink, Led Zeppelin, Ten Years After, Santa Esmeralda.
Then the great female voices (after Joan Baez): Nina Simone, Odetta, Georgia Turner, Mary Hopkin, Tracy Chapman, Sinead O’Connor (!!!). But most of all (as a guitarist) I was impressed by: Tommy Emmanuel. I heard him life in Berlin last year.

Nina Simone’s very fast version:
Yes, it’s a fun song to play and sing. It’s interesting how sad and mournful songs are often the most fun.

It’s such a great song, Frizz. I think The Animals is my favourite version. 🙂 I could open your SoundCloud. 😦

Well played, sir! My favorite version has always been Ronnie Gilbert’s–who sang it when she was one of the Weavers.

Greetings Fritz. I hope this finds you in good health, playin that country music. I came upon this link again. Doc Watson plays House of the Rising Sun in Major key. I tried it once on my blog on piano. All the best, my friend.
