Tuesday’s A to Z challenge: “j”
Event Type: General Blogging
Start Date: Tuesdays, recurring weekly
Description: Every Tuesday I offer the “A to Z challenge”, walking step by step through the alphabet.
+
Last week we had the “tagged i”-challenge, so this week we’ll create a new turn with “j” – I’m sure you’ll also find a photo, a story or a music title tagged with “j”! Feel free to add in the comments below the link to your personal interpretation of the letter “j”!!! Myself I’ll focus on “John Henry”:
John Henry
Let me sing the ballad from JOHN HENRY (thanks to Jeff Burns from Brooklyn, he added his 5-string claw hammer banjo to my vocals, kazoo and guitar).
I have Jurassic Park for today! And an instrumental for you! Enjoy! =)
LikeLike
I didn’t know this wonderful music before – the sound of the instrument: great! I like the musician’s concentration! for sure needed by the flying dinosaurs during flight avoiding crashes, making good touch downs; P.S.: I read today in the German news magazine DER SPIEGEL, that 40% of US citizens do not know, that human beings are followers of animals, developed before – is that possible, that creationism has such a power of blocking information? And no Jurassic park project makes it better?

Frizz, your singing is terrific. Your whole wikiloops project is working great. Here’s another John Henry. http://bumbastories.wordpress.com/2013/02/16/john-henry-4/

hi Stephen, John Henry nowadays could be seen as a statement about job losses – by increasing faster and faster development of technologies: the end of the line for many photographers, printers, book writers, journalists, musicians etc.

What about typists, stenographers, craftsmen, longshoremen, and farmers? Not to mention steel-driving-men. OK, and writers.

hi Lynne,
nothing compares to your J-lamp with the acrobatic upside down stunt! Not even the “Fragata Presidente Sarmiento originally built as a training ship for the Argentine Navy and named after Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, the seventh President of Argentina, considered to be the last intact cruising training ship from the 1890s…”

just a little push; sometimes we need a little push by a child, to make the next creative step forward, dear Tish; today, early in the morning, on our daily path to the bakery, my grandson asked me: “Why do have Donuts a hole in their middle?” I had to hesitate, but then felt a push, looking to the sun uprising: “It’s for the sun,” I answered: “the sun likes to shoot her first beams through the hole of a Donut.” So my little grandson (aged 4) stretched his Donut-hand to the sky and the sun made her first early morning shooting.

Pingback: Remembering John Lennon | Colline's Blog
When I read your post today I thought of John Lennon and wished to share some of my favourite songs: http://collinesblog.wordpress.com/2014/03/11/remembering-john-lennon/
The music is a little different to what you shared with us today but I hope you enjoy it 🙂

thank you, Colline, for “Remembering John Lennon” – he wasn’t only a musician, he was a kind of philosopher, politician, agitator for social change too… (together with Yoko Ono) – of course I often enjoyed playing many of his sometimes very ironic songs too …

I prefer to feature Toots Thielemans on blues harp telling about John Lennon when he met him in New York – and a fine IMAGINE interpretation:

links to Toots Thieleman came from my friend Luzz, a composer and pianist; just another link came into my mail-box from Ian McAulay he wants me to play Summertime like Doc Watson, another of my idols:
so enough challenges – but actually my house is full: visited by daughters and grandchildren – no time to develop guitar arrangements – lately I played the ironic HER MAJESTY IS A PRETTY NICE GIRL from John Lennon – but GlennP. from Florida put new lyrics on the my chord progression and called it HIGH CLASS GIRL:

oh I’ve a creative song writer now – that’s what I’ve been longing for so long: your permission, to sing your lyrics: that challenge will make my day today! Actually it’s still night here, but during daylight I’ll send the results to you: my singing on soundcloud and wikiloops – and a blog post with a quotation of your lyrics, my singing – and of course a back link to your page, O.K.?
