What a nice rendition of the song, Fritz. It’s interesting to know that it’s a song about a calf being led to slaughter. Thanks for pointing out that it was a politcal statement during WWII. I learned to play this song 45 years ago from a Public Television show. Will have to see if I can find it on the internet. Thanks for the meaningful information about what it meant. I did not know.

Her name was Laura Weber and I found the music of Dona Dona (their spelling) on Spotify.
I learned it in the 60s. She was on Public Televsion and taught guitar. That is how I learned to play.https://www.facebook.com/FolkGuitarWithLauraWeber

stealing the ball during a soccer match –
was the star for the audience –
