“the first childhood excitement” indeed. Their sound and mostly their colors were [still are!] mesmerizing!

absolutely – the sound and feel of rolling them around in my hand. Not dissimilar to Bogart in ‘The Caine Mutiny’

I LOVE this–it’s been so long since I had marbles (I couldn’t play them, mind you–but just having them to turn in my fingers and look at was wonderful!).

Shooter’s and Steelees as we used to call them, haven’t thought about marbles for years but if I remember right most of mine fell down a heating vent.

That’s exactly what I am doing now and the reason for not visiting so often lately! I recently found out there are quite complicated rules to serious marble games…

My daughter used to collect them. I think there are boxes and bags of them somewhere in her room, forgotten by now.
