last smiles from car cemeteries

As a young boy I always dreamed once to drive a PORSCHE. We lived right next to a Porsche dealer. The car salesman always made me smell the leather seats in the screening room and gave me glossy brochures, even though I was only 8 years old. I am now 68 and have never had enough money for a Porsche. The Porsches of the time (and their companions) dawn now already in cemeteries with their peers around – and send us one last smile – like the photographer “Kiekmal” aptly subtitled. I thank him for allowing me to present some of his photos here:

P.S.:
When my father was gone, I sat down by his grave and played on my guitar. Beg your pardon: I’ve put the same song as background music for the old cars now, because I feel like they would watch me like a gang of fathers giving a last advice …

thanks for sharing kiekmal’s auto graveyards which are as beautiful as cemetries. Am intrigued by your way of relating to them. I’ve no auto memories but they are the evocative evidence that the past has truly gone and played on your guitar like the pulling of heart strings

  4. It is sad to see such grand old cars in this state. The photos, however, do remind one of their former glory.

  5. Wonderful photos. I don’t know why they pull me in and entrance me. I love looking at old cars like this.

  6. Some of these shots are momentously eerie – as if the cars aren’t quite dead!

  9. What cool photographs! I know nothing about cars, but I’ve always liked looking at old ones — running, not running, shiny and polished, rusty and worn — there is just something about them. Thanks for posting these great photos, and for the slide guitar number!

  11. Very Interesting photos. I’m curious, Frizz. What did the car salesman used to tell you while he was giving you the glossy brochures at your 8 years old?

    • give it to your father, he is an engineer, for sure he has money enough, to buy this red Porsche (he did not know, that my father never would have a drivers license …)

Hard to pick a favorite since they all spoke to me in their way, but the “Last Trip to Nowhere” drove straight to my heartstrings….

  16. I often hear your guitar while browsing through my reader – although I admit I haven’t seen most of the posts themselves, I’ve heard them – and I really like the tunes! 🙂 I don’t know much guitar terminology, but you play well! And good photographs like this set here are an added bonus. With this post though, you’ve gone an extra step ahead with the little background story – so to cut a long comment short, this post is awesome three times over! 😀

    • thank you, kasturika, for giving me courage, to add my guitar backgrounds – sometimes I’m not quite sure, if it is a good idea … – especially because the songs are mostly as old as the cars above – I like the blues roots records from 1910-1960…

  17. Porsche, Rolls Royce, Buick roadmaster, …some dreams for a car lover. And in farms and barns, we can find pearls like that. That old 356 is so sad 😦 Not smiling anymore
