Science says, there is a “vicious cycle of loneliness and consumption.” Good for the owners of shops in shopping malls. Bad for the consumers: they should re-animate another kind of satisfaction.

the happiness one gets from shopping or from material things is just a temporary solution to loneliness.. but i would be happy of owning the bugatti (and my pocket would be lonely for the maintenance cost LOL)..

Good morning, Frizz – here’s something that’s definitely suffering from over consumption: http://tishfarrell.wordpress.com/2013/08/12/world-elephant-day-2013

The consumption/waste is out of control, sadly to say…

Yes, it is a sad state of affairs. I used to be caught up in that but now funnel my energy into just enjoying nature and photography. The consumption definitely does not heal the loneliness.

So many people try to make themselves feel better by buying something they don’t need that ends up in landfill.

I am, like usual, of two minds with this one! Consumerism only lines the pockets of (mostly) big business and doesn’t always provide any long term satisfaction for the end-user – but – sometimes all the creative, productive solutions for our sadness or loneliness just don’t cut it. Miss Z and I share a silly joke in this case – “When in doubt, buy shoes” – when the burden of prosperity becomes heavy we pass them along to those in need: it is a win-win scenario….

I have a confession to make. I am not a shopper. I go to a store when I need something. After I finish my purchase, I’m normally itching to go home. Makes my hubby pretty happy. I find shopping boring, actually.
