Discussing with Shimon in Jerusalem about basic demands I wrote the reply: “…when I do have food and clothing, and a roof over my head, I have no further need to accumulate more and more money…” – this for the material part. And the other half? What at least? Camera, internet connection, guitar?
or to choose more non-material terms for the other, the spiritual side:
– freedom of speech (and writing, publishing)
– dignity, sovereignty
– the right to do things slowly?
– a veto right to say no, to ignore, to block?
looking to the modern conflicts in Arabia, Turkey, Russia etc. it seems that cats have solved the problems already long ago, but some human societies are still fighting for …

below: me, fighting for the right to play cat music on my guitar – and to say “NO!” to some other plans like earning more and more money, bombastic goals of tourism etc.
Basic Rights

What a beautiful cat, Frizz. And I see he’s sitting strongly on freedom of the press. Just beautiful!

Shalom Shimon, yes, my wise cat Emily blocks me to read the daily local newspaper, because she has the opinion, the news make me angry always; but she supports me, playing guitar;
P.S.:
and for your topic religion: I now understand, why cats in Egypt have been worshipped like gods…

Cats seem to know what is important – and turn up their noses in disdain at those things that aren’t. We can learn a lot from them.

What are basic rights for cats ? and other animals. Just look at the toys thay are playing with…No need to be complicated. I’m thinking like you about having more money or some luxury gadgets….And if only we had no frontiers in this world, but it’s another subject I will speak about.

We none of us need much, Frizz. It’s just that many of us don’t know it. 🙂
Growing older teaches its lessons.

Emily is definitely a cat who knows. Her paws are so very beautiful too, like little muffs. I imagine she is most particular where she places them.

And talking of accumulating money, many years ago when I was studying social anthropology I read a book about hunter gatherers – Marshall Sahilins’ Stone Age Economics. I believe he said something to the effect that the very people whom we think of as the poorest and most undeveloped, because their material culture (to our eyes) seems so basic and uncivilized, are in fact the richest people on earth. This is because they pursue a life style which provides them with everything they need. This always struck me as a very interesting paradox. It is not of course paradoxical to the hunter-gatherers, whose spiritual/sacred apprehension of the world is perhaps rather more developed than it is for very many apparently civilized, consumption-indulged people. Keep playing your guitar, Frizz. So good for our souls.

Beautiful cat and music! What a wonderful treat 🙂
These conflicts have been existing for centuries, and it won’t go away when people still don’t have the freedom to read…

What we need is so very different to what we desire. Most of my material desires are based around playing….art, music, camera….so I have the luxury of having my survival needs met, but now I want to play with toys of ever increasing complexity.

Frizz, I love “the right to do things slowly…” Nothing bothers me more than someone rushing me or getting impatient and taking things away from me because I’m not doing it quick enough for them…
You cat is beautiful…

yes, it appears on the photo portrait, that my cat Emily Dickinson is a discerning cat. But she is only 10% a demanding cat (demanding salmon and ham and tuna) – but 40% of it is very kind to me, especially when crawling on my belly and purr when I can not sleep. 40% she sleeps for themselves – and for 10% it kills mice, the whole dark night without any regret.
