1b – frizz reply: I agree. The intelligence service in Israel is very successful – and necessary. But it is not necessary, that the USA installed eavesdropping bugs in the conference rooms of the European partners in Brussels – for example. Secondly the NSA operates with the Prism program actually economic espionage under the pretext of counter-terrorism surveillance.

3b – frizz reply: he contributes the (typical philosophical) position, that there is no intelligence without moral. That thinking without respect, moral, personal emotion, integrity, proud identity is sick, a kind of disease.

hi Garth, “needed corrective” = a good term! For me Canada is THE “needed corrective” = the land, which gave asylum for US-deserters in the sixties, criticizing the Vietnam war. And the most famous female artist of Canada (for me) is: Buffy Sainte-Marie who created the protest song UNIVERSAL SOLDIER!
Edward … he is not aged 68 like me – but maybe once someone whispered into his ears something about the political movement 1968 (nearly completely forgotten) in the USA …

This is likely a non sequitur [or some readers may interpret it that way], since I don’t profess to be a philosopher or a philosopher’s son – and I certainly don’t intend this as an ad hominem, however I think what you say Dietmar about thinkers always being treated disrespectfully by those in the seats of power is true especially when it comes to women. They have been oppressed and kept down by patriarchy for centuries-so the women’s liberation movement and liberation and feminist theology were and are a needed corrective. In the world of theology, the thesis that came to birth in the 20th century by liberation theologians was that God is on the side of the poor and oppressed, and in the Bible many of the prophets confirm and support this thesis and behave accordingly to correct the situation. Now I’ll get off of my soap box.

Yes. Snowden has tried to do a service. As for the bugs in European conference rooms, I think I know about that one from John LeCarre novels and movies I’ve seen. But it is good that the information is out there and people now know that all the information – everything we say or do – is recorded and available for listening (with proper search warrant or court permission we hope). People at least have some idea of the compromises that are being made in the name of security and the declared war on terrorism. Protecting the integrity of American corporations is the thrust of much of the cyber-defense programs being promoted now in Washington. so it’s good that there’s a discussion..

I just wonder is there anyone, or anyplace in freedom… no one watches you and listens to you… is there? we are all covered by electronic things and space is full of satellites who knows what are they doing there 🙂 But at least in my own geography I can guess, we are all being followed by the special team of the government… 🙂 The story can goes on longer and longer… Thank you dear Frizz, love, nia

dear Nia, Istanbul, in your land it is maybe risky, to talk too much (Turkey is the top ranking nation with journalists brought to prison) – but in my land is not such an oppression – so I think, I have the duty to talk and write freely. My wish is, that they do read what I’m writing – maybe I give courage to some more Snowdens 🙂
