One of my daughters has her 38th birthday today – and she has two sons in the meantime for herself. So giving birth is going on and on – and everyone knows that it is sometimes not easy to care for children – but we all (on every continent) are proud, if we managed all things! Recently I found in the New York Times a fine gallery with photos related to the topic BIRTH, for example 4 mothers with newborns!

P.S.:
my wife, 38 years ago, nearly died, giving birth to my daughter; my own mother, 68 years ago, immediately gave me into an orphanage and left me; it took 40 years for me to find her – and all the other births in Africa, Asia, America – in times of wars or even in peace: not always easy. Actually in Germany both parents have to work for the income – and the kids spend their childhood in the kindergarten, not at home, as 50 years ago, with a mother caring for them …

I know! it’s a sad state of affairs and does not speak well of us as sentient beings. Regarding families in which both have to work: the same here in the US. Sigh!
I just checked my Facebook and Buddhist Global Relief had this posted:

P.S.:
I didn’t stand outside, when my wife tried to give birth; my shoes stood in blood three hours while the doctors were fighting … – since them deep in my heart is the ritual to sing sometimes the St. James Infirmary blues:

I saw the one of relatives waiting outside the maternity ward. It looks filthy there! 😦
I’m sure she survived because you were there the whole time. Giving birth can be a lonely thing under any circumstances, but especially a situation like that. But there was a happy ending and you treasure all.

Happy Birthday to your daughter! We do live in much better times, but I’m really glad I wasn’t born in any of the places you mentioned. It could be worse, if it was China, I may never have been born.
Sorry to hear you took 40 years to find your mother. But glad you found her in the end. It takes true determination to never give up and keep searching.

Such a tiny precious bundle. It reminds me of our second grandchild who was very early and spent time in an incubator. Now he is 5, full of life and vigour. What a blessing.

Happy Birthday to your daughter.
Must have been traumatic for your wife to have such a difficult childbirth.
I once knew a person who had 12 children. One of my good friends has 8 children.
