Delhi Gang Rape

“In India women are gang-raped, gang-lynched and the female political leaders have nothing to say…” Rita Banerji from Calcutta commented recently my article emancipation-far-away. It’s horrible, but the latest gang rape in Delhi (with the sad death of the victim) is a chance, that the international media makes a reality check: women in India are treated like worms …

  4. I would hate to live in a society like that. Many cultures still oppress women, I think it is high time that they change their laws and be fair to women.

  8. It reminds me of the minister of Tourism of Goa, in India, a woman, who said that the reason European women received harrassment by local men was they dressed too provocatively..on the BEACH. As TOURISTS. I too despise the repugnant male persons who carried out the rape and murder, but Itoo agree…where are the women politicians’outrage? They are not too ‘scared’ to say anything, believe me, not at all.

  10. We often read reports of how women are treated in India and about all abortions if the child is to be a girl. About the burnings and murders. But this one – this was a chock to our whole society. I’m glad you write about it and bring it out further. Her death must lead to changes for the better.

  12. There are many comments about the Indian guru. But the thing is, every time something like this happens, a woman is gang molested or raped, even female politicians and women in the National Commission for Women in India, make that kind of remark. They say, it’s the clothes that women wear, or that the woman is a “slut.” But what I discovered during a gender survey for my campaign, The 50 Million Missing (www.50millionmissing.info), is that women who were 25 years and younger didn’t speak and think that way. They understood the concept of individual right to safety and basic human rights — without excuses, the way that even older feminists in India are not willing to accept. I called this the “internet” generation of feminists because they got a bigger view of life and human rights outside the cultural context. I just wondered when we’d see the explosion of this generation. And this is it! There is no turning back, because the internet is getting bigger, and there are more generations coming 🙂 Yipeeeee!!!!

  15. IT IS A SHAME WHILE THE PROTEST IS STILL ONGOING, MORE RAPE CASES WERE REPORTED AGAIN IN INDIA AND THE GOVERNMENT THERE IS NOT DOING THEIR WORKS! THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY AND STOP THIS MADNESS ONCE AND FOR ALL – IF THEY CANNOT DO THE JOB, SOMEONE ELSE CAN.

  16. This is unbelievable! But how people passing by, or even the reporters, can film or photograph this situations instead of calling the police or help the victim?!

    • the have respect for the police, doing a silly job, they have no respect for women, demonstrating for human rights: they bow down their knees to often adoring the powerful idiots.
