A mouth guarding veil like this would have been not wrong in the centuries of the pestilence. Actually I have seen the four-part TV-series by Ken Follett “World Without End” (2007): In those medieval times they mostly tried to make a therapy by cutting out clever Bible Verses, mashing and then eating them. Surprise: Usually they didn’t have any success with this method, to stop the pestilence.

thanks Prof. Wolfgang H.: I have to apologize, of course a veil wouldn’t protect vs. pestilence because the actor is a flea jumping from rats to humans and humans and humans – with or without a veil.

actually the Taliban in Pakistan make trouble vs. the polio project of the WHO not because they would prefer to eat bible verses – but they noticed that the Osama bin Laden address was told to the US by an anti-polio activist.

Die übliche Bezeichnung “Mundschutz” ist zumindest im OP völlig daneben und das Dingsda wird etwas korrekter als Maske bezeichnet. Das Op Personal trägt die Maske in erster Linie um keine Keime auf den Patienten zu übertragen und in zweiter Linie um keine Krankheitserreger vom Patienten in die eigene Lunge einzuatmen ( also ein Keimfilter und ein Lungenschutz und kein Mundschutz). Böse Zungen behaupten, dass die Maske vom Personal im OP getragen wird, damit der Patient nicht erkennen kann , wer den Behandlungsfehler macht. Auch in der Zeit der Pest war der “Mundschutz” leider unwirksam, denn der Ãœberträger der Pest ist der Pestfloh, der auf der Ratte lebt und über diese übertragen wird.
