Story Challenge: Letter “K”

Hi Bloggers! Do you have to share a story or a short reflection tagged with the letter “K”? For example I’ve written about KOLKATA (= Calcutta) and Kennedy, the Ku Klux Klan or “Knocking on heaven’s door”, about Kite Surfing and kitchen nudes, Kenya and Kick Boxers, Kant and Kierkegaard, the Kao-Hsiung Harbor or Kalashnikovs, Kuwait city and Koalas, Kangaroos and Knights, Kleopatra or Kansas City, Kisses and Kids etc. – I’m sure you’ll find an own story or a short reflection tagged with “K”! Feel free to add in the comments the link to your personal interpretation of the letter “K”!!!

KOLKATA / Calcutta

Kolkata is a city where one can drown. Not only during the monsoon period. Not only because there are so many people. But because there are so many things going terribly wrong. Rita Banerji lives in the middle. She comments herself (often in the attitude of a female Sisyphus): “The monsoons are here! We had 3 days of continuous rain. The streets were flooded and people in some parts of the city had to get around on little rubber boats. Strange: you never see anyone wearing raincoats here. But they are good at balancing umbrellas!”

QUESTION:

  • Do you know things, which could be organized better in your own country?
  • Do you remember situations, where humor saved your state of mind? Which?
  • my daily German Newspaper Top Headlines: http://paper.li/frizztext/1341655486: deutsch!

  5. I thought immediately of Kansas City. Well, actually Frizz mentioned it as an example of a K. My fondness for the city (I’ve never been there) I credit to Groucho Marx. Groucho was in an elevator when a fancy woman entered wearing a large elaborate hat. Groucho, with his innate flair for irreverence flicked the hat so it fell over her face. The woman turned to him indignantly. It was the great Greta Garbo!
Groucho said: “Gee, I’m sorry. i thought you was a fella I knew from Kansas City”. Attached here is Bumbaversion of the great blues song.

  7. Hi there Frizz, I was only able to visit Mumbai, and didn’t have a chance to travel to Calcutta while I was in India. Maybe next time. 🙂 Here’s my contribution for this week’s photo story challenge: Koala Kingdom in Queensland. 🙂

  8. Hey! I am playing catchup and am not quite sure about this challenge; do you prefer that we write a new post or use an old one with the “K’ as a tag?

There are two posts that mention the Kuna Indians.

    http://playamart.wordpress.com/tag/kuna-mola/

“K” pops up in the word, “Kingfisher,” so I will include the post about the birds where I live.

Participating was painless! I’ll gladly reach into my bag of tricks and come up with an original ‘K’ post!
    Thanks! Z

  22. Would not have thought of Calcutta as actually beginning with a “K”! I keep thinking of “Kentucky” where my maternal grandmother spent most of her growing up years–the bluegrass, the thoroughbreds, the boyhood home of Abe Lincoln, the marvelous hams, the many fine educational institutions.

  23. I believe the female US philosopher Judith Butler could understand the political fight organized by Rita Banerji in Kolkata / India:
Judith Butler just got a German price in Frankfurt, Adorno price (I often wrote about Adorno) – Butler says that moral is too much formed by gender interests – Rita Banerji is criticizing the killing of females in India: “dowry death” etc. – instead of genocide she talks about femicide …
