BODY PAINTING IN TIMES SQUARE 2011 / Body Art by Andy Golub – Times Square, Manhattan NYC
photo via flickr.com by Asterio Tecson / asterix611 / New York
I noticed that a FAQ / frequently asked question (696 clicks till now) via my site specific wordpress search machine is “ANDY GOLUB”. He is a body painter, using female nude models in the center of public: New York Times Square, Brooklyn Bridge etc. – why so many people are searching for photos featuring his work? Is there not enough beauty available? Are beauties hiding too much? Is there not enough communication between the genders?

Love the artistry. But not clear how this is not indecent exposure 🙂

hi Madhu,
I know, that there would be big problems for the artist (and the models) in some other countries; censorship even in Manhattan brought some models into prison – after certain discussions they came free … – maybe we have to make some censorship-dialogues too … – I’ve learned from wordpress, to add to all links related to Andy Golub: “WARNING: female nudity, I hope it will not disturb your feelings …”

It’s fascinating the way they can transform a woman’s body into an artistic
canvas. It is such a beautiful tribute to the body of a woman. She is a blank
canvas ready for creating.I really like this, Frizz. You always have very unusual
photo’s to see.
Very nice,

yes, Wolfgang, I hope they could clean their skins – to have a free canvas again for another day and another taste …

I actually walked by one of these models being painted last year in Times Square – fascinating, and the end result was really beautiful. Lovely post, frizztext – taking it up a notch, I see 😉

hi Ailsa,
we visited New York two times, invited by friends 1996+1997,
we would be happy to live there – and for sure we would take photos every day …

I wonder what the Naked Cowboy thinks of having his patch invaded!
The photos and film clips reminded me of the wonderful Marina Abramovic retrospective at MOMA not so long ago – http://www.moma.org/visit/calendar/exhibitions/965 – which included (I refuse to say “featured” – the whole show was one outstanding feature!) nude models, male and female.
The artist and models look so at ease together, almost as though he is painting/dressing them for a performance of live art which in itself is performance art.
Do hope you and Barbara get to come back and enjoy NY soon!

thanks, Patti, for the hint to Marina Abramovic – we have some books of her, saw many videos, I wrote several articles by myself describing her work – but never saw a performance live – must be a basic experience!
P.S.:
I hope, you’ll still discover interesting things (writing blog posts about), now, back from USA, strolling through rainy England again …; thinking of England suddenly I remember Lee Miller (photographer and model, USA, France, UK) – she lived at her end there – maybe a bigger artist than Marina Abramovic …
