Lonnie Johnson Guitarist

Lonnie Johnson, Alonzo “Lonnie” Johnson, 1894-1970, he played with Louis Armstrong or Duke Ellington, with Eddie Lang or Bessie Smith.

above audio file: me, trying to understand the JET BLACK BLUES, 1929 played by Lonnie Johnson, guitar, and King Oliver’s Creole Jazz Band … originally performed in Eb, I turned the strings a half tone down …
call me a relic, call me what you will,
say I’m old fashioned, say I’m over the hill,
today’s music ain’t got the same soul
I like the old time’s blues men roll…

    • my friend Richard Koechli (Guitarist, Switzerland) has written a guitar tutorial about the fathers of the blues guitar – my personal bible – there’s a youtube trailor, featuring his book:

in his book MASTERS OF BLUES GUITAR are lessons (and audio tracks) related to
Memphis Minnie, Elmore James, Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, Charley Patton, Howlin’ Wolf, Mississippi John Hurt, Tampa Red, Fred Mc Dowell, Blind Blake, Blind Willie Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, Son House, Muddy Waters, Leadbelly etc.
