Cruiseship Crash Costa Concordia

cruise ship crash costa-concordia in Italy, frizztext comment: It’s like another Titanic insanity or – metaphorical – the tower of Babylon tumbled into the sea: to much mass luxury! I prefer little boats, not such a crowded mass – it’s absurd (for my opinion) to carry 4,000 of the rich and bored people around …

  1. I agree. That little Blue Boat looks a lot more manageable, you know?

sometimes we discover Choice, Chance, Karma or Destiny
      – and sometimes idiocy:
it’s not always fate but often ignorance, stupid grabbing of luxury etc.

  3. I agree, crowded mass is absurd [no matter rich or poor]. But then it’s a world gone very very wrong!

  4. Well said. Prayers to those affected. I agree with your opinion of cruise ships. For all the travel I have done, a cruise ship vacation is not one of them. And unlikely anytime in the near future.

I also agree, humble and simple are better.

  6. So true, 4000+ on board, it’s obviously going to be a nightmare if anything goes wrong. I’ve never been keen on boats personally, water’s OK as long as it’s no deeper than I can stand up in.

I really don’t like those ships, I saw one arrive in Kusadasi and it totally dominated the harbour and then 4000 people got off, swooped on Ephesus spoiling it by making it too crowded and then disappeared 6 hours later. What sort of experience do they have?

frizz: yes, we had the same experience on the Greek island Santorini. All 4,000 are forced to do the same, entering the same little shops – absurd – everywhere long lines of waiting people; after a while, the town was empty again; I loved strolling through the town 5 a.m. – good photo light and not a single soul on the streets …

      P.S.:
though the title of the wordpress weekly photo challenge was “PEACEFUL” – on the ground of the Santorini Bay rests another sunken cruise ship, the SEA DIAMOND – no one seems to remember …

  14. Stunning simplicity in the little blue boat and such a tragedy with the cruise ship. I loathe the idea of holiday cruises but for some reason I would happily book passage on a merchant ship for the experience of sailing the oceans.

  15. I was very shocked to hear about the cruise ship sinking. It is like something out of Titanic. Another reason I will never go on a cruise. I am finding it hard to believe the Captain and the fact that he was one of the first ones to safety really angers me. I pray for all the families that are morning at this time

Cruise ships like the Costa Concordia always look top heavy. I would never want to be on one in the middle of the ocean in stormy weather. Now, it seems they are even more dangerous when close to the shore. It’s so tragic that lives were lost though.

    • I wonder if Silvio Berlusconi could have had the same problems, if he had to be a cruise ship captain on the one hand, and on the other hand a bunga-bunga organizer; maybe a captain has to much different things to manage? with serenity plan a ship’s route vs. giving a big party feeling to all the guests?
