sometimes I think, those tied up ducks are a good metaphor to understand the difference between individualism and altruism, that 60 years split my soul: trying (on the one hand) to develop my own talents and freethinker opinions – vs. the other behavior structure never (on the other altruistic hand) to do something without the permission of the peer group, family, neighbors, colleagues etc.

Teeheehee! I have a similar take of the ducks in Vietnam, too, but no where nearly as good:

(fast forward to December on that)
By the way, for those wondering, the birds can’t get away because their feet are tied up. So they can sit pretty for the buyers to look at but their feet are bound so they can’t even stand up.

hi Jane, thanks for your information (the feet of the ducks are tied up).

you made a great calendar slide-show best of your journeys through several nations,
December: Vietnam, ducks on market.

The lead photo here is one of my three favorites from your “F” archive post: “Full”. This plenitude of balanced geese pulls my mind right into an extended adventure with Mother Goose. As a child of the 60’s and peacenik, I am rejoiced to see Vietnam the way it is in these photos.
