Blogging inspires more than – for example – a local newspaper. Printed. Silly topics. Blogging is a great chance to develop personal goals – and to discuss them with blogging friends worldwide. The famous US-blogger Elizabeth Obih-Frank wrote: “Unlike in the publishing world, where the powers that be control what sees the light of day and what gets relegated to the wastebasket, a blogger can find a core group of like-minded souls with similar interests, and blog away knowing that the audience they seek is there to encourage them… “

Yes. What to add to Elizabeth Obih-Frank? When I look back after nearly a year of blogging, I notice, that after eleven months now I like much more to read daily wordpress blog posts around the world than my silly local newspaper-products a year before … I’ve canceled the local newspapers – at least I’ve earned the money I do not spend anymore for newspapers, printed color magazines, many books, DVD-movie sellers (amazon) etc. – even to watch television seems to get more and more boring: because I can’t interact. Blogging opens the door to a new kind of interactive (global!) democracy …

already my cat Emily tried to explain to me, that there are better things to do than reading a silly local newspaper …

Great post. I never really started reading newspapers for the simple fact that I find the handling (turning the big pages) impractical. For news I stick to the ones I find online. But you’re right, especially newspapers are often impersonal, not only for the “objective” writing-style, also because of the missing interaction between people. I often find myself reading the discussion-forum of “Spiegel Online” (Online news), but I don’t like the tone there, too aggressive and inconsiderate. So blogs are a great way to express oneself and also to read about other people!
Cute dog by the way! He seems so relaxed!

hi Cassie in Cologne,
I agree to you writing “I often find myself reading the discussion-forum of “Spiegel Online” (Online news), but I don’t like the tone there, too aggressive and inconsiderate…”
frizz-reply: dogs & cats (and bloggers) are often wiser than some paper-print writers …

Great post that well show blogging is a world apart, a place where you can meet people you would have maybe never met otherwise, to exchange ideas and read real voices.
I like newspapers from time to time but I also know I can’t interact with the voice who wrote the paper or the voice who inspired the paper and that in many cases these voices are corrupted or under pressure and their words not true.

I read actual newspapers from time to time. I do agree about the blogging, I’ve discovered something new, learned a lot of things and have been encouraged and appreciated by fellow bloggers! Great post!

I love blogs more than traditional newspapers because if you find a really good one, you will learn more than you ever wanted to know about a subject. I am also interested in the personalities of the bloggers and that just doesn’t come across in the say, The Wall Street Journal, although I do like articles in The Journal.

You are exactly right Dietmar, at least with blogging we can interact with fellow bloggers and learn from them first hand.
However, with newspapers (as our dear friend and blogger Elizabeth Obih-Frank so wisely says “Unlike in the publishing world, where the powers that be control what sees the light of day and what gets relegated to the wastebasket, a blogger can find a core group of like-minded souls with similar interests, and blog away knowing that the audience they seek is there to encourage them…“

You’re so right I began my blog in May and have learnt so much and ‘met’ so many lovely people around the world. It thrills me every time I get a comment or a hit form someone thousands of miles away who has taken the time to read my writing or look at my photos. I hardly watch any tv anymore and even facebook has dropped down my list!
