Once I founded the photo group EXISTENTIALISM – visit http://www.flickr.com/groups/existentialism/ (more than 1.300 members in the meantime). But though I’ve read Kierkegaard and Kafka, Sartre and Camus, Heidegger and Nietzsche: I am still silly enough to believe, animals could also realize that stylish EXISTENTIALISM-feeling … – tell me, if you don’t think so …

frizz-comment: he seems to be something like a CHURCHILL character between all those common birds … (by the way I also read Konrad Lorenz, a scientist, trying to understand the mind of animals…) read more in the discussion thread of my group at http://www.flickr.com/groups/existentialism/discuss/72157624265343247/

yes Jackie, BEN is a great photographer; we’ve been on the same place, the mountain Jenner, Bavaria, but I only took a photo introducing a birds’ gang – but the lonesome “EXISTENTIALISM” bird captured by BEN Visbeek gives us the important feeling WE CAN BE OURSELVES – we must not be the slave of any group …

Lots to contemplate as I head out to start this day. The bird is thinking deeply- and has great presence. Your list of references will have to be explored at another time but are always better than a college course.

Several crows pulled apart my tulip flowers this spring. There is a reason a group of them is called a ‘murder’…

this is a beautiful picture… and I believe it is apt to the subject. It radiates the sort of presence that I would choose to illustrate existentialism. But I wonder… with all due respect for your work as a collector, and administrator of your fine group. whether it wouldn’t be more appropriate for you to ‘meet the challenge’, so to speak, with work of your own. I understand that you have published a book, and I have seen some of your own fine photos that you have captured. When I thought of the letter ‘E’, I was hoping to see some of your own work regarding existentialism.

Shalom Shimon,
I wrote about Kierkegaard and Nietzsche, Jaspers and Buber – you can find the articles in my book
fragments and feedbacks, June-2013 US $12.10
– but it is very difficult to get attention with such stuff in a blog. So I decided to have my focus on interaction (interaction, an idea of Martin Buber!) – and to feature other photographer’s findings, thoughts, comments …
P.S.:

my actual reflection on Existentialism: main part of this philosophy is to focus on courage (and not to get overwhelmed by ANGST). Maybe it is a question of courage for Israel, to follow some wishes of the people of upcoming Palestina: to give them West Jordan Land and parts of Jerusalem demands a lot of courage and trust. I’ve heard about some Israelis who try to respect Palestina: those are good existentialists in my eyes … – what do you think about the chance of those new started negotiations?
