The epidemic EHEC outbreak in Germany, beginning with hemorrhagic diarrhea and abdominal cramps – is very dangerous: The bacterium E. coli O157:H7 causes in combination with Shiga toxins the “hemolytic uremic syndrome” (HUS), in which the red blood cells are destroyed. At first the kidneys fail, then, much more dangerous, the brain is under attack. Therapy: maybe “Eculizumab” (Soliris), produced by Alexion, USA
