Bedroom Interior

Have the courage – discuss and compare bedroom interiors …

Bedroom Interior

You maybe know, that my wife is a photographer and me – I like to play the guitar. So our personal bedroom saints are we + ourselves (not any Vatican supporting sculptures) – in 20 years, as angels, flying through heaven. She with a camera, me of course not with a harp singing Hallelujah but with a guitar strumming: Give me that old time religion …

I’ve written some book reviews for amazon, some about interiors:

Like a hymn to Oblomov, those Russian who did not want to get out of bed, are these photographic works by the German photographer Herlinde Koelbl. Sometimes a very humorous collection! From the Designer JOOP to the unemployed Gerhard Koch, who lives in a disused bus Berlin: from rich to poor, everything is represented in Herlinde Koelbl fantastic book BEDROOMS. In Paris is fascinating the apartment of the German film director Margarethe von Trotta and also the studio of the artist Bernard Michel with tall windows like in a cathedral – and a perfect view over the landscape of roofs.

In Moscow we are amazed at the bedroom of the music professor Friedrich Lips: Behind the marriage bed a Modigliani painting is fixed on the wall. And he is sitting on his bed working like a devil on his voluminous accordion.

In the Rome series I am amused by the humorous use of dogs and cats in the bed of the couple Valentina Rotella (ground staff) and Duccio Rotella (Policeman). In London is heart-touching the cozy breakfast ambience of the couple Poklewski – in addition to this English bitter jam, in addition to tea and dog – (Mr. Poklewski is a financial advisor), especially very important: the FAX PHONE, close to the bed and a mountain of newspapers on the bedspread – and notepad in operation.

The so badly battered New York has of course some interior paradises nevertheless: like the Carnegie Hall-dimension of the sleeping and working studio of the photographer Editta Sherman or the survival space of the author Patricia Field Steel: “All that is important to me, surrounds me while sleeping: my animals, my books, photos of my friends … ” she is quoted by Herlinde Koelbl.
