When I want to relax I like to play guitar. My repertoire: Black Music! Mississippi John Hurt, Josh White, Robert Johnson, Mahalia Jackson, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Tina Turner, Etta James, Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys and endless on and on …

Zur Entspannung spiele ich fürchterlich gern Gitarre. Mein Lieblings-Repertoire: schwarze Musik. Mississippi John Hurt, Josh White, Mahalia Jackson, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Tina Turner, Etta James, Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Johnn Lee Hooker, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys und endlos immer so fort …

Sometimes I like also white music, but only if white people play a repertoire, which is influenced by black music. Eric Clapton has the the feeling, also the Rolling Stones, Johnny Winter, Ry Cooder, for sure Amy Winehouse – and maybe, maybe not: Carla Bruni. At least when she performes the old Bessie Smith standard: “Nobody knows you, when you’re down and out!”.

Man weiß zumindest davon nichts.

once I wrote a CD review on Carla Bruni for amazon, before she met Nicolas Sarkozy, but maybe the old blues lyrics came in her mind, as she was dated with president Sarkozy, after his wife had left him with arrogance: I began to fall so low / Lost all my good friends / I did not have nowhere to go… Carla Bruni managed, that the whole world looked again at him. The old blues goes on with: When you finally get back up on your feet again / Everybody wants to be your old long-lost friend… – maybe not Sarkozy’s friend but Carla’s! This is what I once wrote about her CD “Quelqu un M a Dit” about Carla’s Voice for amazon.de (in German)
