Nevertheless I have to admit, this peaceful society is very attractive. Because we can maybe discover, what is going wrong with our own culture, if we compare fairly.

Mir scheint, dass die von der Sekte der AMISH PEOPLE verachtete, ja geradezu verteufelte Elektrizität mehr zum Erhalt der Würde des Menschseins beigetragen hat als manche verbiesterte Religion es von sich behaupten kann. Religionen sind leider eher allzu häufig durch Entmündigung ihrer Mitglieder ins Rampenlicht gekommen.

“Der einzige Zeuge” ist wahrscheinlich Harrison Fords bester Film, und als er herauskam, zeigte er eine verblüffend neue Facette eines begabten Schauspielers, der bis dahin nur eingefleischten Kinogängern bekannt war durch “Star Wars” und als Indiana Jones. Im “Einzigen Zeugen” spielt Ford den Kriminalbeamten John Book, der beauftragt ist, einen geschockten kleinen Jungen zu verhören, der innerhalb der vom üblichen amerikanischen Leben stark abgetrennt lebenden Gemeinschaft der “Amish People” aufgesucht werden muss. Der achtjährige Samuel Lapp (Lukas Haas) lebt bei seiner sehr früh verwitweten Mutter Rachel (Kelly McGillis). Ein verdeckter Ermittler ist ermordet worden in einer Bahnhofstoilette, und Samuel, zitternd verborgen in einer Kabine nebenan, ist der einzige Tatzeuge.

It does seem peaceful. A life dedicated to family and the land sans the modern distractions. I must admit that Im slightly envious, but I’m often seen walking around with a case of ‘the grass is always greener’.
