Hi bloggers,
for our last D-story challenge we talked about Dancing (Naomi Baltuck) or the term “defenceless” (me, Devil’s Dictionary), about Downtown Vegas (Myra GB) or dogs in a dining room (melouisef), about Dragons or Donald Duck (cocomino), about dark horses (rondomtaliedraai) or double LPs (beyondpaisley), about decorated dogs (Belle Chance / Eileen) or disappearing DECENCY (Martin / 2e0mca), about Dickens (Francine) or me (Dietmar), about different doors (Cee) or discovery (canoe & communications), about diamond prices (keerthikasingaravel) and Deities (Marianne), Dahlietta flowers (Fergiemoto) and a “Dowle Street (Lynne), about “don’t fence me in” (Stephen Kelly) and dog breeding (Peters), about Dragon Boats (dadirri7) and drake noirs (Nils), about disintegration (truthaboveallreligions) and a David (catbirdinoman) etc. – I’m sure you’ll find again an own story or a short reflection tagged with “D”! Feel free to add in the comments the link to your personal interpretation of the letter “D”!!!
Defenceless
“Defenceless = unable to attack.” (Ambrose Bierce, 1842-1914, “The Devil’s Dictionary”): Abused children or women, teenagers attacked by gangs, adults in their jobs, the “Occupy Wallstreet” movement – isn’t it necessary to resist sometimes? Of course better than to use a sword is: to leave the bad situation with a laughter, ignoring consistently what could disturb us …

Hi Frizz, this is a great theme: Defenceless. Nice touch. I’m assuming that these are gigantic swords? It would take a different kind of Arthur to wield this one. Laughter indeed could be as equally powerful as a sword – one of man’s innate greatest defense.
Here’s my contribution this week: Dance!
http://gatheringbooks.wordpress.com/2013/01/22/photo-journal-a-z-photo-challenge-d-is-for-dance/
Yes, Myra, gigantic swords, 10 meters tall, big sculptures – wikipedia knows them, near Stavanger I believe – I love them as a sign, that it is very often necessary to resist, to have the courage to say NO, to leave, to organize distance. Of course it is better, if I do not need a sword (or a gun or a predator drone); arguments should be enough action; and after every liberation: we can dance …

hi Myra,
thank you for D = DANCE
and:
thank you for the quotation, featuring
the German philosopher
(and perfect essayist)
NIETZSCHE:
“And those who were seen dancing
were thought to be insane
by those who could not hear the music.”
I just love this picture..Swords are so representative. I will google the link too..Signed, Gladiator ( my favorite movie
your gladiator:
and after reading Homer in original language nine years in school I had to watch TROY withe Achilles and Hector!
Thanks for the TEASER Fritz! I am a Gladiator cultist and may be the only member of the club. I watch it 2-3 times per month and I have for years. I know every line and identify with all the characters for some reason. Just a silly little personal fact about me… Hated 300 – loved Troy too. Thanks !
my daughter (German) fell in love in cinema during this Gladiator movie with an Italian man (now they are married, have two sons) and they (and my wife and me) are discovering how it feels, if two cultures are joining – and not fighting vs. each other as it was in 50 BC …
Yes I have been looking to meet a German man for years my father and grandparents were from Bavaria- German men do not fall off of trees in the USA- laughing!
I am opposed to war but still love the movie!
it’s raining men for you:
Do you know that many years ago a Newscaster from Philadelphia named Jim O’Brien was sky diving and he died this way…After the furor died down..this song was played as un undercurrent for a long time. The association with him and this song made him more memorable
we had a famous politician in Germany (Jürgen Möllemann), he jumped out off a plane and made suicide not opening his parachute; he wanted to reach 18 percent in an election but failed – good luck, no ladies were waiting there at the ground …
HAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!! Sick humor- I love it!!
under his shoes Möllemann had written the numbers 18 – but 18 means in certain groups 1=A 8=H (letter eight in A to Z) initials of A.H. = Adold Hitler; me wasn’t sad about that death …
My goodness- me either!!!
Lots of good topics that start with the letter D. What I’ve seen so far is very interesting.
I looked through my files. I had a bunch that started with D. I was going to use one I wrote about “Dissociative” Disorder, but I’m scared I might be plagiarizing myself. So here is Desert wind, a song I wrote that is on the famous soundtrack CD.
http://bumbastories.wordpress.com/2012/11/20/desert-wind/
if you ever change your mind, about leaving Israel behind …
http://flickrcomments.wordpress.com/2013/01/17/up-in-the-bronx/
your book (and music), comparing three countries’ mood is great!
on the other hand, to write about the “Dissociative” Personality Disorder would be interesting too – I have the DSM in my book shelf, the “Diagnostic and Statistical Manual” of Mental Disorders …
yes a powerful theme frizz, well chosen, so much to be aware of …. i will be back soon with my D … christine

hi Angeline,
once we decided, if we have a travel destination: it must be someone there, waiting for us in his house – never travel like a tourist into some emotional nowhere lands meeting only people making their contacts for money …
What a stunning image! Would love to see that in person.
I am afraid I got too busy in early Jan to participate Frizz

hi Jenn,
something like art in the twenties? Beardsley?
“D is for DOODLING = I have always doodled. Filled the borders of pages with lines, circles and doodles with no rhyme or reason. Yet doodling is now becoming accepted as an art form in itself…”
Not quite Beardsleys forte but I guess there are similarities yes
